Ghoddos Can Help Brentford Avoid the Drop

After what was a bright start to their first season in the Premier League, newcomers Brentford have found wins hard to come by at the turn of the year.
Iranian international Saman Ghoddos is enjoying his first campaign in England’s top flight and the attacking midfielder could play an important role in helping the Bees maintain their Premier League status.
A Flying Start for Ghoddos’ Bees
A shock 2-0 win over Premier League giants Arsenal was the dream start for the west London outfit on their first appearance in the English top division since the 1946-47 campaign.
Brentford, who are currently priced at 7/1 odds in the outright Premier League betting markets to be relegated this season, went on to claim draws against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in their following two games. Wins on the road against the likes of the Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United soon followed as manager Thomas Frank’s passing brand of football caused established Premier League teams problems. Ghoddos played his role in those early games and even found the back of the net for his first Premier League goal against Burnley in October.
However, it has not all been plain sailing for the Bees in the top flight and it looks like they could have a fight on their hands to avoid the drop.
A 2-1 win over Aston Villa looked like a result that would see Brentford return to winning form, but that victory on home soil was followed by four defeats at the hands of Southampton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Wolves. It was a tough run for Brentford but one they might well have expected to happen at some point in the season against such a high class of opposition. Composure is needed to steady the ship and Ghoddos will be hoping to play his role in getting the Bees back up the standings.
Ghoddos Can Play His Part
With 12 appearances in the first 23 Premier League games of the season, former Ostersunds and Amiens winger Ghoddos has been forced to bide his time when it comes to Premier League minutes. Finding consistent form is difficult when starts have been hard to come by for the 29-time capped Iranian international. The 12 appearances in the league came with an average of 29 minutes per game, which again has not helped Ghoddos find a rhythm. Even with limited time on the field, he has been able to score a first Premier League goal and provide two assists to the Brentford cause.
The 28-year-old’s form in the Carabao Cup suggests that Ghoddos has a role to play at the business end of the season. The midfielder made four appearances and provided three assists as the Bees beat the likes of Forest Green, Oldham and Stoke City before being knocked out by eventual finalists Chelsea.
Manager Frank knows exactly what Iranian star Ghoddos brings to his side, and if a tough run of form continues, then the Iranian might well find himself with more minutes on the field to help Brentford rediscover that early-season form.
